Hazem Asif

Hazem Asif grew up in Lahore, Pakistan, completely enchanted by the Harry Potter books, but it was Mary GrandPré’s magical cover illustrations that first pulled him into the world of art and literature. Little did he know he would grow up to become an illustrator himself. Since earning his BFA in Graphic Design (2016) and MFA in Design (2018) from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts, Hazem has worked across
diverse industries including film, television, media, academia, and publishing. He has illustrated over 15 children’s books for a range of international publishing houses. In his personal art practice, Hazem reimagines alternate futures through speculative world building inspired by South Asia and the Global South. He now works by day as a science illustrator at Lahore University of Management Sciences and by night brings stories to life as a children’s book illustrator for diverse audiences around the world.
